Former UH All-American John Davis Has Record-Setting Performance at Adidas Houston Invitational

Houston, Texas- Former University of Houston All-American John Davis returned to his alma mater and set a new Tom Tellez/Carl Lewis International Stadium record in the men's shot put with a to of 65 feet, 5 inches. A native of Long Beach, Calif., Davis set the record in the shot put during his first meet at UH since earning All-American honors in the shot put and discus during the 1998 and 1999 indoor and outdoor seasons. He ranked second among Houston's all-time leaders in the shot put during his collegiate career with a throw of 62 feet, 7 3/4 inches in 1998. In addition to Davis' record-setting performance, Southern Utah State's Maryann Schauerhamer provisionally-qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:33.25. It was nearly 14 seconds faster than her previous career-best time in the event.
