El comes to Houston after playing two seasons for the University of South Alabama Women's Basketball program. As a senior, she averaged a team-leading 12.1 points per game and collected a team-best 39 steals on the year, while earning All-Sun Belt Conference Third Team honors during her senior season.
In her role, El assists in all aspects of the Houston Women's Basketball program, including practice coordination, team travel, and office duties.
"We're excited to have Mansa join our program," head coach Ronald Hughey said. "She brings great enthusiasm and obviously has a great understanding of the game of basketball. We're looking forward to her new, innovative ideas as we continue to get this program back to where it needs to be."
Already a veteran of the coaching ranks, El served as an assistant women's basketball coach for West Virginia Wesleyan College during the 2013-14 campaign and coached the Houston Cobras on the AAU circuit during the summer of 2009.
El attended the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Ala., and earned her bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies. She is pursuing her master's degree during her time at Houston.
