Women's Basketball Wins Second Straight

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Lady Cougar basketball team defeated the Southern Miss Golden Eagles 64-47 in its second Conference USA game of the season. The win improves the Lady Cougars to 11-3 on the season and 2-0 in the conference.
The young Golden Eagles squad had no defense over senior forward Sancho Lyttle who had 10 points in the first half. She was assisteded by senior center KiKi Harris with five points and freshman guard Jasmin Moore with two three-pointers for a score of 36-15 heading into halftime
The second half proved to be just as tough for the Golden Eagles as the Lady Cougars dominated the floor. Lytlle posted her 11th double-double on the season, finishing with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Harris drove to the basket under pressure to secure the lead at 57- 42 with 3:30 left to play in the game. Besides Lyttle¹s 16 points, Harris and Moore each contributed 11 points.
Even with 32 points in the second half of play, the Golden Eagles could not pull together to defeat the Lady Cougars. Fresman Center Liz Biland had a total of 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Golden Eagles.
The Lady Cougars shot 43.9% from the field had 23 points off the bench and 18 second chance points. The Golden Eagles posted a 36% field goal percentage.
The Lady Cougars finally return home after nine road games on Jan. 14, 2005 against UAB at 7:00 p.m. at Hofheinz Pavilion.
