FORT WORTH, Texas - Chandi Jones scored 32 points and grabbed eight rebounds Sunday afternoon to help lift the University of Houston Lady Cougars to a 61-59 win over the TCU Horned Frogs at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas. The win improves Houston to 14-2 for the season and 3-0 in Conference USA play.
Jones biggest basket of the day came with 28.9 seconds left to play in the game when she banked in a jumper in the lane to put Houston up 60-59. After a misses free throw by TCU's Amy Pack, Jones skyed for her eigth rebound and was fouled with two seconds to play in the game. She sank the first two free throws to put the Lady Cougars up 61-59 and after missing the second, time expired giving Houston the win.
Jones and Sancho Lyttle scored all of Houston's second half points, as the Lady Coogs out scored TCU 32-22. Jones tallied 20 in the second period as Lyttle scored all 12 of her points in the second.
The Lady Frogs (13-3, 2-1) were led by Pack who scored 13 points and Sandora Irvin who added 11 points and 12 rebounds.
The Lady Cougars will be in action again Friday night when they take on Cincinnati at Hofheinz Pavilion at 7 p.m.
