HOUSTON - Behind an impressive 10-of-13 shooting performance from junior forward Courtney Taylor that yielded a career-best 31 points to go along with a game-high 11 rebounds, the University of Houston women's basketball team defeated Tulsa, 77-69, Thursday night at Hofheinz Pavilion.

Not only was the evening a personal best in scoring for Taylor, but her double-double accomplishment was the 34th such of her career, leaving her just one shy of the school record set by former Cougar Sancho Lyttle. Lyttle tallied 35 double-doubles during her UH career from 2003-05. Taylor's impressive night saw her go a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the 3-point arc to set a career-high in long distance shooting.

Taylor's remaining stat line also was solid on the night as she contributed three blocks, three steals and two assists to UH's cause.

In addition to Taylor, Houston (10-9; 4-2 C-USA) got a 15-point outing from junior guard Brittney Scott, who also pulled down a career-best eight rebounds. Meanwhile, junior forward Lesslee Mason reached double-digits in rebounding for the 10th time this season, finishing with 10.

Houston, which had struggled on its home court recently, got off to a quick start in the contest by jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the first period behind five quick points from Taylor. The Cougars made seven of their first 11 shots on their way to shooting 55 percent (11-of-20) during the first half, but 15 turnovers prevented them from taking a big lead into the intermission.

The lead grew to as much as nine in the first period on a jumper by Megan Morton at the 10:53 mark of the period, before Tulsa rallied and began to chip away at the home advantage.

The Golden Hurricane used a 16-6 run over the 5:59 to take their first lead of the night at 23-33 with 4:54 to play on a lay-up by Larrissa Williams.

A pair of Taylor free throws in the final seconds of the half gave the Cougars a two-point halftime advantage at 31-29.

Following the intermission, Houston held the Golden Hurricane at bay, but Tulsa fought hard and was able to keep the game close.

Tulsa (6-11; 0-6 C-USA) cut the lead to just a single bucket at 42-40 on a 3-pointer by Taleya Mayberry with 13:48 to play, but the Cougars responded with a 13-5 run to push their lead to double-digits at 55-45 with 8:12 to play.

The Golden Hurricane did not fade down the stretch, but Houston proved to be too tough and snapped a five-game losing streak on its home court.

For the game, Houston made 22-of-44 field goals for a 50 percent team shooting mark, while limiting Tulsa to 34.7 percent (26-of-75).
