HOUSTON - University of Houston women's basketball forward Courtney Taylor continues to secure her place in the list of all-time Cougar standouts during her junior season as Sunday she became the program's all-time career double-doubles leader in the Cougars' 68-62 win over Memphis at Hofheinz Pavilion. The victory also moved the Cougars into a tie for first place in the Conference USA standings.

Playing in her 78th game in a Cougar uniform, Taylor scored 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to complete her 36th career double-double and pass former Cougar and WNBA All-Star Sancho Lyttle atop the program's all-time list. Lyttle produced 35 double-doubles during her UH career from 2003-05.

Fellow front court member Lesslee Mason turned in one her most complete games since joining Houston after playing her first two seasons at Ohio State. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native scored 15 points with nine rebounds, four steals, three assists and career-high five blocked shots.

Junior guard Brittney Scott led all scorers in the game with 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting for Houston which improved to 12-10 overall and 6-3 in league place. The Cougars now sit atop the C-USA standing in a first place tie with Memphis and Tulane, who each also hold 6-3 conference records.

The Cougars got off to a good start in the contest, building a 13-5 lead on the strength of their good defense which forced the Tigers to misfire on five of their first six shots.

Back-to-back 3-pointers from Roxana Button pushed the Cougar lead to 15 at 26-11 with 7:01 to play. Memphis, however, responded with 9-0 run of its own to whittle the Houston lead down to only six at 26-20 with 5:05 remaining in the period.

Scott pushed the UH lead back into double digits with 3:03 to play, converting an old fashion three-point play to make the score 33-22. The Tigers rallied again to claim seven of the half's final 10 points to head into the intermission trailing the Cougars 35-29.

Houston's lead swelled to as many as 19 on a lay-up by Taylor with 4:28 to play that made the score 64-45.

Unwilling to fold after the big deficit, the Tigers provided some drama to the end of the game as they used a 15-0 run to trim the Cougars' lead down to only four, 64-60, with 57 seconds remaining.

A pair of clutch free throws by Brittany Mason with 16 seconds left made it 66-62 and the two teams traded baskets in the final seconds to give the game its final score.

Houston starting point guard Porsche Landry missed the contest after suffering an injury during the team's last outing at Rice on Thursday. In her place, junior Megan Morton made the first start of her Houston career, contributing six points and tying a season high with four rebounds.

UP NEXT
The Cougars will hit the road for their next four contests which will see them travel to Tulsa, Okla., to battle the Golden Hurricane next Friday before continuing the road trip with visits to SMU, Southern Miss and UCF.
