In a hard-fought game tonight, The Lady Cougars came up short against No. 15 DePaul 78-66. The Lady Coogs move to 17-6 on the season and 7-3 in C-USA. DePaul who has extended its win streak at home to 21 moves to 20-3 and 9-1 C-USA.
DePaul's Khara Smith went toe to toe with Sancho Lyttle. Lytlle was the Lady Coogs leading scorer with 26 points and 12 rebounds, one block and four steals. That marks 17 double doubles on the year for Lyttle.
Smith was the leading scorer for the Blue Demons with 24 points and 14 rebounds. This also marks Smith's 17th double-double on the year. Other notables on the Blue Demons were Allie Quigley with 16 points and Erin Carney with 13.
The game was fast and physical. Lyttle opened the game with a rebound off of Kiki Harris' missed shot to put the Cougars on the board first. However, that would be the only time the Cougars lead in the game. Despite 32.4% FGs and 78.9% Free Throw shooting, the Blue Demon's 56.7% FGs and 76.9% free throw shooting won out. They dominated the Lady Coogs in the paint and converted more rebounds into points.
The Lady Coogs bench worked well tonight contributing 20 points total. Daphne Andre came off the bench to score nine points and added three assists.
Other notables for the Lady Cougars were Joann Overstreet who had nine points and four steals in her 38 minutes of play, and Kiki Harris who had six points, eight rebounds, two blocks, two steals.
The Lady Cougars head to Milwaukee to face Marquette on Sunday Feb 13, 2005 at 2 pm CST. Marquette upset TCU 71-55 on Friday night.
