Tulane 62, Houston 55
Conference USA Championship Quarterfinal #1
Tulsa, Okla. - Reynolds Center

Houston Head Coach Joe Curl
On the game:
"I think we had a really good tournament. It's a reflection of the tournament itself. Tye Jackson played one of the better games in the history of our tournament. She played as well today, but there were a couple of goofy fouls here and there. It was a hard fought game, but the two kids to my right (Tye Jackson and Whitney James) deserves all the credit.

Whitney James really put us on her back and Tye (Jackson) obviously has done that all year long. I did not have any problems with the game at all, from the effort, to how hard we played. I thought the crucial turnovers down the stretch, the rebound and top of the key walks were absolutely great calls. They needed to be called. And from where I, they were turnovers.

But it was not some much what we did, that disappointed me there, it did not. What made me really proud were the kids trying to make those plays. Without those two kids we would have not been in that position to have a chance to win the game. So, that is the thing I emphasized, they felt the weight of the world was on their back. It is just a basketball game."

Houston Junior Guard Tye Jackson
Were you too aggressive on defense...
Coach was telling me about the goofy fouls. We do not have a lot of depth on our team anyway. He told me to play smart and a couple of times I over reacted. I guess not getting the steal or not getting a good shot down on the offensive end, so I had a stupid foul. But I am so proud of my teammates, regardless of whatever happened I am proud of them because they really stepped up this time. I am proud of them. They had my back once I fouled out, they said 'Tye we got it'. That's all I needed to hear, I am going to have their back on the bench, cheering, keep pushing them.

Tulane Head Coach Lisa Stockton
On the game:
"I think this game was pretty much like I thought it would be. I think its wide open. There is not a lot of difference from 1 to 9 or 1 to 8. I think Houston did a good job. They just rebound so well and attack the boards that it really gave us problems. I give them a lot of credit. After playing last night and being so depleted, they came in really pumped. I'm really proud of our team. The one thing that we have done really well is finish games and I would like to see us do it again."

Were you surprised about the push after Tye Jackson fouled out?
"I think that motivated them a little. You could see when she fouled out they were upset about it, because you can see that the players really revolve around that, just like a technical. When a player is out, sometimes different people step up. It can be a little more difficult to play against because you don't know who will step up."
