HOUSTON, Texas - Fueled by a commanding first half, the University of Houston women's basketball team won their second exhibition game of the season Sunday afternoon at Hofheinz Pavilion over the Houston Jaguars 83-49.
The Lady Cougars pulled away from the Jaguars midway through the first half behind a strong offensive effort by All American Chandi Jones. Jones scored 13 first half points while junior Sancho Lyttle added 10 points in the opening period.
In the second half the Lady Cougars were able to maintain their lead over the Jaguars with a strong defensive performance. For the game, the Lady Cougars held the Jaguars to 25 percent from the field.
Lyttle led the way for the Lady Cougars with her second double double in as many games with 19 points and 13 rebounds and point guard Joann Overstreet finished with 14 points and five assists. Jones finished the game with 13 points in 21 minutes.
The Lady Cougars will not play again until they open the season at the University of Iowa Tournament when they take on Gonzaga University Nov. 21 at 7 p.m.
