Nov. 13, 2004

Box Score

Senior center and All-Conference , Wade Trophy and Naismith Award candidate Sancho Lyttle had a double-double in the first half to lead the Lady Cougars as the University of Houston women's basketball team cruised to a commanding 83-57 victory over the Houston Jaguars in its second exhibition game before the start of the 2004-05 regular season on Saturday (Nov. 13) night at Hofheinz Pavilion.

Houston jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead within the first four minutes of the game before the Jaguars would even put a point on the board. The Lady Cougars held the Jaguars to under double-digits until former Lady Cougar Angela Curl nailed a two-pointer to pull the Jaguars to within seven and narrow the score to 18-11 with 9:33 left in the first half.

Lyttle's lay-up twenty seconds later sparked an 17-4 run as the Lady Cougars carried a 35-22 lead into half-time. Lyttle finished the half with a game-leading 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Houston busted out with a 13-4 run to take a 22-point advantage (48-26) three minutes into the second half, en route to out-scoring the Jaguars, 48-35. Once Latasha Moore hit a two-pointer to give the Jaguars 35 points and cut the Houston lead to 23 at 58-35 with 12 minutes left to play, the Lady Cougar defense stifled the Jaguars and held them scoreless for over three minutes while Lyttle and fellow seniors Joann Overstreet, Daphne Andre´and Cynecia Robinson combined to add ten more points to the board.

Lyttle closed out the night with 27 points and 17 boards, while Overtsreet and Andre´ followed with 12 points each, respectively. Robinson followed Lyttle with 13 rebounds, and senior KiKi Harris added eight points and eight rebounds on the night.

The Lady Cougars open the 2004-05 regular season against the visiting Wichita State Shockers on Friday, Nov. 19, at 5:30 pm at Hofheinz Pavilion. Houston remains at home and on the North Texas Mean Green with a 2:00pm tip-off on Sunday, Nov. 21.
