    HOUSTON HEAD COACH Todd Buchanan
On the preparation going into the game
"We talked about pressuring the basketball a lot the last couple of days. A lot of the credit goes to Coach [Wade] Scott and his preparation. It was his scout. The way he prepared the team was fantastic. I took a personal endeavor into the defensive side of it. We got back to our strong convictions of pressuring the basketball by using our size, length and athleticism on the defensive side, and they really bought in to it. It was certainly a team effort tonight. I'm pleased with this great win."

    On communicating on defense
"When we talk and go through our rotation, we get things done the right way. When that happens we are a really good basketball team."

On having a guard like freshman Alecia Smith
"She keeps us more balanced. She keeps our opponents off-kilter a little bit as well. We're a dual threat when it comes to that. With someone like her, we can rebound and push the ball, as well as go into the transition game. It makes us a much more potent basketball team."

    On freshman forward Marche' Amerson
"With being a freshman, Marche' has incredible talent. Tonight, she took the initiative to be offensively and defensively aggressive. She set the tone from the first play of the game. If she continues to buy in and do what she's doing, I'm going to be really glad she's playing for us for the next four years."

    On junior forward Marissa Ashton
"Marissa just blew up tonight, and that's what we've been waiting for. We've all known her capabilities and talents, but she took an extra personal attitude about everything tonight. She was tremendous, and gave us an incredible spark off the bench. I'm very proud of her. She put in a whole lot of work tonight."

On getting Marissa Ashton the ball
"Any time you have a player that is feeling it like she was feeling it tonight, you want to get it to the hot player. That's just good and common sense basketball. When she hit one, why not get it right back to her so she could hit two, three and so forth."

    On continuing solid play
"They have to keep putting in the work. Like I've been telling them, at the end of the day you can't be satisfied and you have to stay hungry. We have to continue to be the best team we can be, and not just show up and play well enough to get by. Tonight, I was a little disappointed in the way we finished the game. We could have finished better and made our free throws a little bit more consistently down the stretch. At the end of the day it's a win and I'm happy for them."

    SENIOR GUARD Porsche Landry
    On the game tonight
"Tonight, we did a great job of executing. We watched film and made the adjustments we needed to stop them defensively. Being able to communicate was crucial for us to be successful. Marissa (Ashton) played extremely well, and it helped us get in a rhythm."

    FRESHMAN FORWARD Marissa Ashton
    On the game today
"Tonight, we did a great job of executing. The goal is to play hard for your team. When your team is constantly supporting you, it makes it easier to play well. The basket seemed bigger tonight, and luckily shots kept going in."

    FRESHMAN FORWARD Marche' Amerson
    On tonight's performance
"Tonight showed what can happen when your teammates play well. They found me when I was open, and I had enough confidence to make plays."
