Women's Basketball Closes Out Six-Game Homestand Against Rice Sunday

HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's basketball team closes out a season-long, six-game homestand against crosstown rival Rice Sunday at 2 p.m. CST in Conference USA play on Guy V. Lewis Court at Hofheinz Pavilion.

The homestand was UH's longest since playing nine-straight at home from 12/14/96-01/10/97.

STORYLINES

  • UH (7-9, 1-1 C-USA) has had seven days off after playing three games in five days last week. UH went 2-1 last week, beating Lamar and Tulane but falling to UTEP.
  • Twiggy McIntyre (13.4 ppg) and Tye Jackson (12.5) lead the way for Houston.
  • McIntyre is the reigning C-USA Player of the Week. She averaged 20.7 ppg last week and was 18-for-18 from the free-throw line. She has made 22-straight free throws.
  • Jackson, who recently became the 18th player in school history to break the 1,000-point plateau, appears on watch lists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS and Naismith Awards.
  • Houston head coach Joe Curl, who suffered a heart attack on Oct. 27, continues to recover at his Houston home. No timetable has been set for his return and assistant coach Danny Hughes will serve as the interim head coach for the foreseeable future.
  • Rice (7-9, 0-2 C-USA) enters on a four-game losing streak and has dropped eight of 10 games overall.
  • The Owls have been held under 55 points in each of the last four games, including a season-low 28 against Tulane (01/04).
  • Leading scorer (16.7 ppg) and rebounder (8.7 rpg) Valeriya Berezhynska (ankle) has missed two straight games.
  • Kadie Riverin (12.1 ppg) and Maudess Fulton (10.3) pace the offense in her absence.
