Houston Women's Basketball Notes (Game 16 - East Carolina) in PDF Format
HOUSTON - Following an impressive weekend that saw it start 2-0 in Conference USA play by notching a pair of difficult road wins over Tulane and UTEP, the University of Houston women's basketball team returns to the comfortable surroundings of Hofheinz Pavilion at 7 p.m. Friday when it hosts East Carolina. The game features two of only three C-USA teams that navigated the opening week of league play without a blemish on their conferences record as the Pirates (14-2 overall) enter the weekend leading C-USA with a league record of 3-0. Nationally, Friday's contest has draw some attention as it was mentioned by ESPN blogger Graham Hays as one of this week's game to watch. Additionally, Friday's halftime will feature a performance by Dance Works. Junior forward Courtney Taylor returned last weekend after missing a pair of games due to injury and rejoined junior guard Brittney Scott to give the Cougars one of the C-USA's most potent inside-outside combinations. Taylor tallied her 30th career double-double during the team's last outing at UTEP, pulling down a game-high 14 points and contributing 24 points on 11-of-18 shooting. The Crockett, Texas, now sits alone in second place on the UH all-time double-doubles list, just five behind career leader Sancho Lyttle. Taylor also continues to close in on the prestigious list of career 1,000 point scorers for UH women's basketball, as she enters the weekend with 954 career points in her bid to become the 19th player in school history to reach the millennium mark. On the perimeter, Scott led all scorers with 27 points against the Miners and paces the Cougars on the season with an average of 17.6 points per game. The Pirates are led this season by sophomore guard Ashley Clark, who scores 12.7 points per game, and junior forward Kim Gray, who tops ECU by averaging 5.8 rebounds a contest. Houston women's basketball will continue its C-USA homestand at 2 p.m. Sunday when it is back in action against Marshall, which enters the weekend with a 10-5 overall record and a 2-1 league mark.
