Women's Basketball Notes (Game #18 - UAB) in PDF Format
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Another chance to climb a few rungs in the Conference USA standings presents itself to the University of Houston women's basketball team Sunday when it faces off against UAB in a nationally televised contest at Bartow Arena. The game will tipoff at 4 p.m. (CST) can be seen on CBS College Sports and Comcast Sports Southwest. The game could be a significant one for junior forward Courtney Taylor as she enters the game with 986 career points, needing just 14 to become the 19th member of the program's 1,000 point club. The Crockett, Texas, native is also closing in on the school record for career double-doubles after collecting the 32nd such performance of her career during the team's last contest against Marshall. Former Cougar Sancho Lyttle holds the current school record for double-doubles, racking up 35 from 2003-05. Houston is 2-0 on the road against C-USA teams this season, defeating Tulane and UTEP away from home earlier this month, but enters the UAB game trying to shake off the blues of two straight home losses last weekend which dropped its overall league record to 2-2. Sunday's opponent, the Blazers, sit atop the C-USA standings as the league's only remaining team unbeaten in conference game at 4-0. UAB is 10-6 overall this season. UAB leads the all-time series with Houston by the count of 9-8, but the Cougars have won each of the last two meetings in the series, including a 61-50 win over the Blazers at Hofheinz Pavilion last season. The game also marks the first time the Cougars will appear on national TV this season. In addition to Sunday, Houston's contests at SMU (ESPN2), Southern Miss (CBS-C) and UCF (Bright House Sports Network) are all slated for broadcast. Fans can also hear all the action from Sunday's game by clicking on the steaming audio link on the women's basketball page of www.UHCougars.com. Third-year play-by-play man Jeremy Branham and color commentator Neal Raphael will have the call from Bartow Arena.
