HOUSTON - University of Houston sophomore Roxana Button was honored Thursday as she was selected to the 2010 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Women's Basketball Second Team.

Button, a guard from Coppell, Texas, is in her second season with the program and has been a hard-worker both in the gym and in the classroom since setting foot on the Houston campus. A biology major, she currently carries a 3.91 GPA with plans to attend medical school in the future.

On the court, Button has played in all 20 games this season for the Cougars, drawing 17 starts for head coach Joe Curl. She currently averages 7.5 points and 2.7 rebounds per contest while contributing 23 assists, 20 steals and one block this season. Additionally, she enters Thursday's contest at Rice ranking seventh in Conference USA with a 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio in league games.

The last Houston women's basketball player to receive ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District honors was Twiggy McIntyre during the 2007-08 season.
