HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's basketball team, in the midst of a seven-game winning streak, returns home to play Tulsa, Thursday at 7 p.m. CST on Guy V. Lewis at Hofheinz Pavilion.

Houston has won seven-straight games and sits in sole possession of second place in the C-USA standings one game behind league-leading UTEP.

UH has won seven-straight C-USA games on two occasions, an eight-game streak during the 2001-02 season and a nine-game streak during 2003-04. During the 2003-04 campaign, UH won a school-record 13-straight games spanning non-conference and conference play.

Following Thursday's game, Houston will square off with SMU at 2 p.m. Saturday before embarking on a four-game road swing that will take the Cougars to UTEP, Tulane, SMU and Tulsa.

he Cougars will celebrate both Think Pink Day and National Girls and Women in Sports Day Saturday.

The WBCA's "Think Pink" initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.

NGWSD began in 1987 as a day to remember Olympic volleyball player - and former Houston volleyball player - Flo Hyman for her athletic achievements and her work to assure equality for women's sports. Hyman died of Marfan's Syndrome in 1986 while competing in a volleyball tournament in Japan. Since that time, NGWSD has evolved into a day to acknowledge the past and recognize current sports achievements, the positive influence of sports participation, and the continuing struggle for equality and access for women in sports.

STORYLINES

  • Houston (13-9, 7-1 C-USA) enters on a seven-game winning streak and has equaled its best ever start in C-USA play.
  • This season marks the third time (2000-01, 2003-04) that the Cougars have started C-USA play 7-1.
  • UH's six road wins this season have already surpassed the team's road-win total (4) of the previous two seasons. Houston has never finished a season below .500 when recording six or more road victories.
  • Tulsa (9-12, 5-3 C-USA) has lost three of its past five games but picked up a split last weekend, knocking off Tulane but falling to league-leading UTEP.
  • Twiggy McIntyre (15.7 ppg) and Tye Jackson (11.9) and Courtney Taylor (10.3) lead the way for Houston.
  • McIntyre is averaging a league-high 20.4 ppg in C-USA play and has gone 41-43 from the line (.953) during that span. She earned C-USA POTW honors on Jan. 7 and Jan. 21.
  • Jackson has averaged 7.1 assists and 7.0 rebounds per game in C-USA games. She was named C-USA POTW on Feb. 4 after averaging nearly a triple-double against Memphis and UAB.
  • Jackson tallied the fourth triple-double in Conference USA and Cougar history with 11 points, a career-best 16 rebounds and 12 assists in an 80-76 overtime win at UAB.
  • Taylor has averaged a double-double during league play thus far (12.1/10.9).
  • UH is 11-3 when holding its opponents under 70 points.
  • Tulsa is led by Larissa Williams (13.8 ppg), Chanel Johnson (10.2 ppg) and Tatum Beer (10.0 ppg).
  • Houston head coach Joe Curl, who suffered a heart attack on Oct. 27, continues to recover at his Houston home. No timetable has been set for his return.
