HOUSTON - Twiggy McIntyre (Sapulpa, Okla./Sapulpa HS/Kansas State) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 6 Women's Basketball First Team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Friday.

McIntyre will be eligible for Academic All-America honors, along with the five first-team members from each of the eight districts. She is lone Conference USA player to be honored.

McIntyre, who carries a 3.71 GPA in her exercise science major, is joined on the District 6 first team by Ashley Paris (Oklahoma), Sarah Pfeifer (Arkansas), Danielle Green (Oklahoma State) and Maryann Abanobi (Texas-Arlington).

McIntyre is averaging a league-high 20.3 ppg in C-USA play and has gone 45-47 from the line (.953) during that span. She earned C-USA Player of the Week honors on Jan. 7 and Jan. 21 and was named an Honorable Mention Player of the Month for January by the WBCA.

Nine previous UH student-athletes have been named Academic All-America. The last Houston student-athlete to earn the accolade was volleyball player Heidi Stickesel in 1994.

To qualify for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America team, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or greater and must not be in their first year at their respective university or college.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Women's Basketball team will be announced Tuesday, Feb. 26.
