HOUSTON - The Lady Cougar basketball team will look to improve its 2-6 Conference USA record as it hosts Memphis (11-11, 4-5 C-USA) Friday night. The league match up will tip off at Guy V. Lewis Court at Hofheinz Pavilion at 7 p.m.
After three straight road losses to C-USA opponents, Houston must rebound and regroup in time for postseason competition. The Lady Cougars (11-10, 2-6 C-USA) are coming off a 66-43 win Tuesday over non-conference opponent Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The victory over the Islanders stopped a three-game losing skid and gave Houston its second road win of the season.
Houston is led by All-American Chandi Jones, who is tied with Bucknell's Molly Creamer for the nation's top scoring spot, averaging 26.8 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.5 steals per contest.
The Tigers, who have not won on the road since Nov. 25, 2002 (at Louisiana-Lafayette), have won their last two games and five of their last seven. Memphis leads the all-time series against Houston 9-3.
The Tigers are led by senior Shannon Hamp (6-2, C) and junior Princess Swilley (5-8, G), who lead the team in scoring -- 17.0 ppg and 11.0 ppg -- respectively. Hamp also leads the team in rebounding (5.5 rpg).
Friday's game will be broadcast on radio KGBC-AM 1540 and on the Internet via www.UHcougars.com.
Houston will continue C-USA action as it hosts Saint Louis in an ESPN2 televised game Sunday at 3 p.m. CST.
