March 2, 2018

HOUSTON – Sophomore guards Jasmyne Harris and Angela Harris have been named to the All-American Athletic Conference Second and Third Teams, respectively, the league office announced on Friday.

The awards for Jasmyne and Angela are the highest conference honors the Cougars have received since joining The American and the highest award since Porsche Landry won First Team All-Conference USA honors in 2012-13. Both Jasmyne and Angela added to their resumes after each were named to the American Athletic Conference All-Freshman Team a season ago.

Jasmyne Harris
Jasmyne earned the Second Team honor after finishing third in the American Athletic Conference in both points (597) and points per game (19.9). Harris’ point totals were the 17th best in the NCAA this season, while her 210 field-goals made placed her 32nd in the nation and third in the conference. The 597 points are the seventh most in a season in school history, while her 75 made 3-pointers rank fifth all-time at Houston.

Harris finished among the top-10 in 14 stat categories this season, including assists (109, ninth), field goal attempts (491, second), field goal percentage (42.8 percent, eighth), free throws attempted (162, fifth), free throws made (102, seventh), steals (63, sixth), steals per game (2.10, seventh), 3-point field goals attempted (207, third), 3-point field goals made (75, third) and 3-point field goal percentage (36.2 percent, sixth).

Harris earned American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors twice during the regular season, first on Dec. 4 and again on Jan. 8, while claiming Weekly Honor Roll laurels on five different occasions.

Angela Harris
Angela was one of the top defensive players in the nation this season and led The American in both steals and steals per game. Harris had 90 takeaways in 30 regular-season games, for an average of 3.00 steals per game, which paced the league and ranked No. 11 and No. 16 in the nation, respectively.

Harris was one of the top point guards in the league on the other side of the ball as well, finishing 13th in the league in points per game at 14.5, while sitting fifth in total assists (110) and ninth in assists per game (3.7). Harris connected on 78 3-pointers in her 30 starts, giving her the 40th best total in the nation, second-best in The American and fourth-best mark in school history.
