Women's Basketball Announces Summer Camp Dates

    HOUSTON - Registration is now open for University of Houston women's basketball coach Todd Buchanan's 2013 summer camps, designed for girls of all ages and skill levels to elevate their games to the next level while having fun. The first of four different types of camps begins on June 15.

    Campers will receive expert instruction from Buchanan, the 2011 Conference USA Coach of the Year, and his staff, including Houston legend and WNBA Top-10 draft pick Chandi Jones, along with some of the top high school and AAU coaches from the area.

    This summer's camps offer plenty of variety, as campers can choose to attend Shooting Camp (June 15), Individual Day Camp (June 24-27) or Elite Camp (Aug. 3), while there will also be a Team Camp on June 29.

    For the fastest and easiest way to register, visit www.houstoncougargirlsbasketballcamps.com. A $50 non-refundable deposit is due for each Individual Day Camp. The remaining balance is due at the time of registration. The Shooting and Elite Camps are paid in full. Walk-ups are also welcome for all camps.

    CAMP BREAKDOWN

    SHOOTING CAMP (June 15)
    • Participants:
    All girls ages 6 to high school seniors
    • Cost: $50
    • General Information: Camp is designed to make you a better shooter. Camp will start with basic fundamentals of shooting and build on them throughout the day. Drills will be used to help develop proper techniques and will cover all aspects of shooting. Drills will be taught in stations, mass groups and full court drills. After getting instructions in mass groups, the campers will break into smaller groups and work on that aspect of shooting. If you want to become a better shooter, this is the camp for you.

    INDIVIDUAL DAY CAMP (June 24-27)
    • Participants:
    All girls ages 6 to high school seniors
    • Cost: $150
    • General Information: Camp cost covers instruction in basketball fundamentals, camp T-shirt and individual awards for competitions. Morning and afternoon sessions will concentrate on the fundamentals of the game through station work and full court drills. The final portion of each afternoon will consist of 5-on-5 games to put skills learned into game situations.

    TEAM CAMP (June 29)
    • Participants:
    High school and AAU teams
    • Cost: $250
    • General Information: Teams are guaranteed to play three games. Teams are divided up into divisions based on level of competition. Teams will also be divided into sessions.

    ELITE CAMP (Aug. 3)
    • Participants:
    All girls grades 9-12
    • Cost: $50
    • General Information: Camp is designed for high school players who look to continue their careers at the collegiate level. This camp is designed to push participants to their limits in order to become a better basketball player. Drills used for the camp are the exact same the Cougars use during individual workouts. The morning session consists of station work, going through a variety of drills to take campers' games to the next level. The afternoon session consists of full court drills and 5-on-5 games. This camp is used to help us evaluate student-athletes that could possibly play at the University of Houston following high school graduation.

    Health and Safety
    Full-time counselors will be available to help insure the safety of each camper during each camp. A qualified trainer will be on staff at all times to asses any injuries and determine if assistance from a physician is needed. Professional medical care is five minutes away at Texas Medical Center.

    Camp Store
    Snacks and drinks will be sold from the concession stand located in the Athletics/Alumni Center. Campers will need to bring a lunch each day.

    What to Bring
    Campers must wear gym shoes, shorts and a T-shirt. In addition, it is asked that campers do not bring personal articles, including basketballs, to camp to ensure that they are not stolen or misplaced. The camp will be not responsible for any lost or stolen articles.
