Lady Cougars Announce 2001-02 Season Schedule
May 24, 2001 HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Houston women's basketball team will kick off its 2001-02 season with a pair of exhibition games on November 5 and 12.
The Lady Cougars will open with an exhibition game against the Houston Jaguars on November 5 at Hofheinz Pavilion. They play one more exhibition game against the Houston Flight on November 12 before tipping off the regular season at home against UT-San Antonio on November 17.
Houston will travel to three tournaments next season. The tournaments are at the University of Colorado on Nov. 23-24, at Northwestern University on Nov. 30-Dec. 1 and at Mississippi State from Dec. 15-16.
In addition, the Lady Cougars take on former Southwest Conference rival Texas A&M in College Station in late December, marking the first time these two school have faced each other since the 1995-96 season.
Houston begins Conference USA action on January 6 against the conference's newest member, the TCU Horned Frogs, at Hofheinz Pavilion. Other home games include fellow C-USA schools Louisville (Jan. 18), Cincinnati (Jan. 20), Tulane (Feb. 8), Southern Miss (Feb. 10), Marquette (Feb. 22) and DePaul (Feb. 24).
The annual Conference USA Women's Basketball Tournament will be hosted by DePaul in Chicago, Illinois, from March 1-4, 2002.
Houston wrapped up the 2000-01 regular season with a 19-12 overall record, their first winning record in nearly ten years, and earned a bid to the Women's NIT for the first time since 1991. Their dramatic turnaround this past season was cited as one of the nine-best in NCAA Division I women's basketball.
