HOUSTON--- The University of Houston Women's Basketball program is set to launch its original student-athlete mentor program, kicking off with an introductory luncheon, Thursday, June 19th from noon to 1 p.m. in O'Quinn Great Hall inside the Athletics/ Alumni Center on campus.
The program will allow members of the women's basketball team to foster personal relationships with successful businesswomen in the Houston area, in hopes of gaining personal experience, tips, and knowledge as athletes prepare for life after graduation.
As of now 19 mentors are signed up to pair up with each one of the Cougar student-athletes. During the welcome luncheon players will enjoy a meal as they introduce themselves to their mentors. The afternoon will then conclude with a student-led campus tour immediately following the luncheon.
The mentorship program will focus on critical developmental areas such as life skills, problem-solving skills, self-control skills, stress management skills, and conflict skills. Student-athletes will meet with their mentors every few weeks as they strive to not only succeed on the basketball court, but off the basketball court as well.
