Cougars Volunteer at Meals on Wheels on Tuesday
June 18, 2014
HOUSTON--- The Cougars continued their summer of giving, as they supported Interfaith Ministries’ Meals on Wheels program by packing up various meals for Houston seniors on Tuesday.
The Cougars spent time packing up over 200 boxed meals that will be delivered to home-bound seniors all over the Houston area. The program gives seniors the nutritional support they need to stay independent in their own homes without having to spend a dime.
“This was just another opportunity for us to be selfless and give back to a community that already shows so much support for our university,” said head coach Ronald Hughey. “Any way we can help as a program and brighten someone else’s day, we’re all in for.”
“It especially means a lot to provide for our seniors. These people are moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas. Our parents and grandparents sacrificed so much for us, this is the least we can do for them.”
Interfaith Ministries has been helping Houston’s own since 1955, while the Meals on Wheels program provides almost 4,500 hot meals for individuals in need every day.
