Women's Hoops and Volleyball Volunteer at Meals on Wheels
June 26, 2014
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women’s Basketball and Volleyball programs continued their weekly community service commitments, as the squads traveled to the new Meals on Wheels location in downtown Houston on Wednesday.
The teams helped assemble breakfast bags alongside the delivery drivers. The breakfast bags are delivered once a week to senior citizens and provide seven days worth of breakfast.
“We had a great morning today at the new downtown location of Meals of Wheels,” said associate head volleyball coach Jenny Andrew. “What an awesome opportunity to travel just a few minutes from University of Houston campus and make an impact on so many lives. The team and staff assisted in packing and organizing meals for a 5,000-lunch meal deliveries for this afternoon.”
During the off-season, both programs have made it their missions to serve the local community at least once a week.
Interfaith Ministries has been helping Houston’s own since 1955, while the Meals on Wheels program provides almost 4,500 hot meals for individuals in need every day.
