HOUSTON – The Houston Cougar Women’s Basketball program and the American Athletic Conference have announced the 2017-18 conference schedule.
Houston opens the conference schedule with a road trip up Interstate-45 to meet in-state rival SMU. The Cougars meet the Mustangs for the first of two showdowns at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 30, at Moody Coliseum.
With the ongoing $60 million renovations to the Fertitta Center, the Houston Women’s Basketball program will play its home games inside Health & PE Arena on the campus of nearby Texas Southern University.
The Cougars welcome the newest member of The American to H&PE Arena for their conference home-opener when Wichita State comes to town on Tuesday, Jan. 2. Following the matchup with the Shockers, the Cougars head east to New Orleans to meet Tulane on Saturday, Jan. 6.
The Cougars return home on Wednesday, Jan. 10, for a 2-game homestand and the start of three consecutive televised games, when they play host to Cincinnati on ESPN3. Three days later, the Cougars welcome NCAA Semifinalist UConn to H&PE Arena for a 2 p.m., tipoff with the match airing on SNY/ESPN3.
Houston hits the road for its longest road trip of the conference season with matchups at Temple and at ECU. The Cougars meet the Owls on Tuesday, Jan. 16 on ESPN3, while the matchup with the Pirates is slated for Saturday, Jan. 20.
The Cougars wrap the month of January with a pair of opponents making return trips to H&PE Arena from matchups earlier in the season. They welcome SMU to town on Saturday, Jan. 27, before Tulane makes the trek west to Houston for a 7 p.m., matchup on Jan. 31.
February opens with Houston’s first trip to Wichita, Kan., when they battle the Shockers on Saturday, Feb. 3 in its first of three games on the American Digital Network. The Cougars then return home for another ADN contest when they host Memphis on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
Houston’s three student-athletes from Oklahoma will get a match in their home state when Houston heads to Tulsa on Saturday, Feb. 10. The Cougars will then have a week off before hosting ECU on Saturday, Feb. 17.
The final week of the season will see the Cougars play three games in a week for the first time in the conference schedule, opening with a trip to USF to meet the Bulls on Wednesday, Feb. 21, in Tampa, Fla. Houston’s final game inside H&PE Arena will come on Saturday, Feb. 24, when the Cougars host UCF, while the regular-season finale will see the Cougars travel to Cincinnati on Monday, Feb. 26.
Houston begins the regular season with the program’s first appearance in the Preseason WNIT. The Cougars will open the tournament with a trip to College Station, Texas, to meet the Aggie inside Reed Arena.
The Cougars will host five non-conference games inside H&PE Arena including a Dec. 3 matchup against old Southwest Conference rival Texas Tech.
Alongside of the Preseason WNIT, Houston will also compete in the UMASS Thanksgiving Tournament, while also finishing the second leg of a home-and-home with Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J. Houston topped the Scarlet Knights, 53-51, in last season’s meeting inside Hofheinz Pavilion.

The Houston Athletics Ticket Office is once again proud to offer the Shasta Pass for the 2017-18 athletic season. For just $80, Cougar fans can purchase one Shasta Pass, which allows season-long general admission entrance to all Houston, Women's Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer and Softball home games. To purchase a Shasta Pass, click HERE. Fans that purchase a Shasta Pass will enter the game on a VIP List at the entrance to each sport facility. A photo ID is required for entry with a Shasta Pass.
