HOUSTON--- The University of Houston women’s basketball team and Lubbock Christian University have agreed to take part in an exhibition contest in Hofheinz Pavilion on Saturday, Nov. 2nd at 2:00 p.m. CT.

“This will be a great dress rehearsal for us as we’ll be in a real game situation for the first time this year,” said head coach Todd Buchanan. “It’s going to be good for us to hear some real whistles and have to adjust to some of the new rules that have been implemented this season.”

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for coach Steve Gomez and what he’s doing over there at Lubbock Christian. We definitely have had our battles through the years while I was at Houston Baptist.”

This will be the final chance to see the 2013-14 Cougars up close and personal before Houston officially tips off the new season on Nov. 8 vs. Mississippi State at home.

Admission to the game is free for all fans.

Fans can follow the Cougars all season long on Twitter and Facebook at: @UHCougarWBB and Facebook.com/HoustonCougarWomensBasketball

    ABOUT THE COUGARS

The Cougars return four of five starters and nine of 10 letterwinners from last year's team, accounting for 74 percent of last season's total scoring.

Despite playing with five freshmen and nine total newcomers last season, Buchanan's rebuilt squad won 10 more contests than the previous year and knocked off the top two teams in Conference USA during the regular season.

Sophomore forward Marche' Amerson was named to the C-USA All-Freshman squad after ranking second on the team with 9.1 points per game and 10.1 points per contest in league play. Amerson set a freshman record by starting in all 30 contests and placed in the top 10 of six other freshman records.

Yasmeen Thompson returns for her senior year after making a splash in her first season at Houston, where she led C-USA and ranked 10th all-time in program history in field-goal percentage (.553) while adding 8.6 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest.

The Cougars' schedule is highlighted by 15 home games and 14 contests against postseason squads from a year ago, including defending national champion UConn and national runner-up Louisville.

Houston opens the 2013-14 season on Nov. 8 against Mississippi State inside Hofheinz Pavilion.
