Women's Basketball Kicks Off 2000-01 Season With Exhibition Win
HOUSTON, Texas (Nov. 6) - University of Houston women's defeated the Houston Jaguars in their first exhibition game of the season on Nov. 6, 102-55.
The Lady Cougars had five players in double figures and scored over 100 points in a game for the first time since beating Texas Southern University, 104-48, on December 16, 1995. Leading the Lady Coogs were junior college transfer Valerie Muoneke and freshman standout Chandi Jones with 17 points each. Jones made 7 pof her 12 field goal attempts, including two of her three three-point attempts, and Muoneke was eight of 13 from the field. Senior ShaRonda Lasseter added 16 points, senior Monet Sykes scored 15 and junior Rosalind Carter came off the bench to score 10 points and grab seven rebounds.
Freshman Nicole Oliver also lead the Lady Cougars with nine rebounds and seven steals. Senior Jessica Shanklin handed out nine assists.
The Lady Cougars play their second exhibition game on Tuesday, November 14, at Hofheinz Pavilion against the Houston Flight with a 7:00pm tip-off. They open the regular season at home against McNeese State on Friday, November 17 with a 7:00pm game start.
