Women's Basketball Wins Second Straight Exhibition Game Before Opening Regular Season
HOUSTON, Texas (Nov. 14) - University of Houston women's defeated the Houston Flight in their second and final exhibition game of the season on Nov. 14, 95-75.
The Lady Cougars entered half-time with a six-point lead of 45-39 and turned it up a notch in the second half scoring 50 points. They had four players score in double-digits, including freshman standout Chandi Jones (22 points), senior ShaRonda Lasseter (17) and junior transfer Valerie Muoneke (17) and senior Jessica Shanklin (15). Jones hit seven of her 14 shots as well as three of her four three-point attempts and five of her six free throw attempts. Junior Claire Stavropoulos and senior Danielle Fenderson each came off the bench to score five points.
Lasseter lead the Lady Cougars with eight rebounds and six steals. Muoneke and senior Monet Sykes, who also had six steals, each added seven rebounds while Stavropoulos had six.
The Lady Cougars open their 2000-01 regular at home against McNeese State on Friday, November 17, with a 7:00pm game start.
