HOUSTON - University of Houston head coach Joe Curl announced Thursday the signing of Jasmine Johnson (Omaha, Neb./Omaha Central HS) to a National Letter of Intent. Johnson is the sixth member of this year's recruiting class and will join the Cougars for the Fall 2007 semester.
Cobilyn Hill (Houston, Texas/Aldine Eisenhower HS), Brittany Mason (Houston, Texas/LaPorte HS), Megan Morton (Winnsboro, Texas/Winnsboro HS), Brittney Scott (Orange, Texas/West Orange Stark HS) and Courtney Taylor (Crockett, Texas/Crockett HS) are the other members of UH's signing class.
Johnson, a 5-6 point guard, comes in ranked as the No. 103 player in the country by the All-Star Girls Report. She also was ranked as the 29th-best point guard nationally and a player in the mold of current Cougar Twiggy McIntyre (Sapulpa, Okla./Sapulpa HS/Kansas State). Johnson is a scorer with the ability to involve her teammates in the game.
"She was the best true point guard we saw on the road this year," Curl said. "She's strong and can score, but without question, her best trait is that she makes everyone on the floor with her a better player."
UH is on the road for its next two contests, facing No. 6 Duke on Sunday at 1 p.m. CST in Durham, N.C., before heading to Fort Worth to take on TCU at 7 p.m., Nov. 22. The Duke game will be available for viewing online at www.ACCSelect.com. Free internet audio of all Houston games is accessible at www.UHCougars.com.
