HOUSTON - The coaching staff for the University of Houston women's basketball team is excited this week to announce the signing of three high school student-athletes in Alexandra Henderson, Mae Woods and Breana Williams who will make up the program's 2010 incoming freshmen class.

"We are excited about this class that we have coming in," said head coach Joe Curl. "It's an athletic group that will help us be a taller and bigger team in the next few years. On top of their impressive skills on the basketball court, this group is also a solid academic bunch."

Mae Woods is a 6-foot-4 post player from Maple Ridge, British Columbia, where she played at Maple Ridge Secondary School. Last season as a junior, she was her team's top scorer and leading rebounder, while setting a school record with 214 blocked shots. Woods was also selected to the U17 Provincial Team which finished second at the Canada Summer Games. In the classroom, Woods is an honor roll student who was on the few students selected for the Honors English program.

Alexandra Henderson is a 6-foot-2 guard/forward from Euless, Texas. A stand-out athlete who is long-bodied with a big wingspan, Henderson can play a variety of position on the floor from out on the wing to down on the low block. After transferring from Colleyville Heritage High School, she has been under the direction of Hall of Fame coach Sue Cannon at Euless Trinity High School. Among the schools who offered Henderson scholarships during the recruiting process were Louisiana Tech, Missouri, Southern Miss, TCU and Tulsa.

Rounding out the 2010 recruiting class is Breana Williams a 5-foot-8 guard from Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis, Tenn. She helped led her team to the 2008 Division 2-A State Championship and second straight appearance in the title game last spring. Williams is a scoring guard who has the positional to be a difference maker on both ends of the court. Among the teams recruiting Williams were Ole Miss and Memphis.
