Conference USA Honors Button and Taylor

HOUSTON - For the second time this season, the University of Houston women's basketball team has been well represented on the weekly honors list for Conference USA as on Monday sophomore forward Courtney Taylor and freshman guard Roxana Button were honored by the league.
Taylor was selected the C-USA Player of the Week, while freshman Roxana Button garnered Co-Rookie of the Week honors, sharing the recognition with Candace Rucker of Southern Miss.
Both players played instrumental roles in Houston's 68-57 win over Cal Poly at Hofheinz Pavilion on Sunday, helping the team improve to 6-2 on the season and a perfect 5-0 at home.
Taylor scored a career-high 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the floor and a 6-of-8 mark from the free throw line in Sunday affair. Additionally, the Crockett, Texas, native pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds to produce her 14th career-double double, the fifth in eight games this season. Taylor's 22 points breaks her previous high of 21 set against Southern Miss in the quarterfinals of last season's C-USA Championship. This is Taylor's second Player of the Week honor after receiving the award the first week of the season.
Button notched a career-high 18 points during the victory over Cal Poly. The Coppell, Texas, native did much of damage from the charity stripe, where she was 10-of-13, while adding four rebounds, an assist and a steal. The scoring output tops her previous-high of 17 during UH's season opening win over Southeastern Louisiana. This is Button's second Rookie of the Week honor as the league also recognized her for her play after the season's opening week.
Both players will join their Cougar teammates on the road this weekend as they travel to the Big Apple as its will travel to New York City to take part in the St. John's-Chartwells Holiday Classic. UH will kick off the tournament by facing Boston College at 1 p.m. on Saturday before squaring off against either Buffalo or tournament host St. John's on Sunday.
