Women's Basketball Set to Face Memphis

Dec. 30, 2009

HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's basketball team hopes a return to the friendly confines of Hofheinz Pavilion will help to shake of its recent troubles when it plays host to TCU in a New Year's Eve contest on Thursday. Tip-off for UH's final non-conference contest of the season is set for is 1 p.m.

Thursday is Fan Appreciation Day and all fans who attend will be admitted for no charge. Fans who cannot make it to the game can hear all the action by clicking on the streaming audio link on the women's basketball page of UHCougars.com. Third-year play-by-play man Jeremy Branham will have the call from Hofheinz Pavilion, with Louis Ray providing color commentary.

The Cougars are looking to avoid their first four-game losing streak since February of the 2008 season. The Cougars' string of defeats were handed to them by Princeton, Kansas and most recently Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Junior forward Lesslee Mason is fresh off her third double-double of the season after her 20-point, 13-rebound performance during the team's last time out against the Islanders. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native set a new career high for points and minutes played in the game while falling just one rebound shy of another career mark.

Junior guard Brittney Scott has managed to produce three straight 20-point games for the first time in her career. The Orange, Texas, native leads the Cougars with 16.3 points per game and will be looked on to shoulder the load as junior forward Courtney Taylor is questionable for the contest. Taylor sat out the TAMU-CC game with a leg injury.

TCU enters the game with an 8-3 mark and relies on a quartet of balanced scorers to lead their offensive attack. Emily Carter, Helena Sverrisdottir, Tk LaFleur and Starr Crawford all average between 12.8 and 10.8 points per game for the Horned Frogs.

Houston leads the all time series 29-10 (.744) although the Cougars dropped last year's matchup with TCU in Fort Worth by the score of 91-72.
