AUSTIN, Texas (Dec. 8) - The University of Texas women's basketball team defeated Houston 85-61 Tuesday night in a non-conference game at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin.
The Lady Cougars got off to a slow start, connecting on just on just nine of 33 shots in the first half that allowed Texas to take a 40-21 lead at the intermission. The Lady Longhorns then opened the second half by hitting their first six shots and two of four free throws to go on a 17-8 run, widening the margin to 28, 57-29.
Houston played well the remainder of the game, shooting over 43 percent from the floor in the second half while scoring 40 points. The Lady Cougars, now 1-6, were led by sophomore Angela Curl's 10 points in 16 minutes of action. The native of Brennham, Texas, tied a season-high with three three-pointers. Texas improved to 6-2 on the season. The Lady Longhorns were led by Alisha Sare's 19 points.
With semester finals and the Holidays fast approaching, the Lady Cougars will now have three weeks off before its next game. Houston will take on national power Louisiana Tech on the road in Ruston, LA, on December 28. Tipoff will be at 7:30 p.m. as part of a double-header in LA Tech's Holiday Tournament.
