CHICAGO (Jan. 28) -- Lenae Williams poured in 31 points and broke the single season school record for three-point field goals as DePaul (12-7, 5-3) beat Houston (6-12, 3-5) 78-54 in a Conference USA matchup on Friday at Alumni Hall.
Along with Williams's 31 points, DePaul got 10 each from Candis Blankson and Yolanda Lewis while Sylvia Blakeslee grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Houston was led by Kathy Williams and Jessica Shanklin who each tossed in nine points.
Williams now has 70 three-point field goals, eclipsing her mark of 67 set last season.
The Blue Demons never trailed in the game and created a first half cushion with a 12-0 run over a three minute span to lead by as much as 22 (38-16) before taking a 40-20 lead at intermission.
In the second half, DePaul's lead grew to as much as 23 at 57-34 with 12:10 left before the Lady Cougars went on a 16-1 run over nearly a nine minute stretch to cut the lead to nine at 61-52 with 3:58 remaining. That was as close as Houston would get as DePaul then answered with a 17-2 run to close the game out.
Both teams are in action again on Sunday as DePaul hosts South Florida and Houston travels to Marquette. Both contests tipoff at 2:00 p.m.
