Lady Cougar Basketball Falls to UAB, 79-65
HOUSTON (Feb. 4) - The University of Houston women's basketball team was defeated by Conference USA rival UAB 79-65 Saturday night in Hofheinz Pavilion. With the loss the Lady Cougars fell to 6-14 on the year, while the Lady Blazers improve to 14-7.
UAB got off to a fast start, building a 22-13 lead in the first ten minutes of the game. Houston quickly responded by turning up the heat on defense, creating six UAB turnovers in just five minutes. Then a 6-0 run by the Lady Cougars would cut the margin down to just five points at the half.
In the second half, UAB sophomore Deanna Jackson lead all scorer's with a game high 28 points. Junior Mia Thrash also provided 25 points as the Lady Blazers improved to a 6-4 in C-USA action.
Three players scored in double-figures for the Lady Cougars, led by junior transfer Cathy Lida who posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Jessica Shanklin also had 16 points for Houston, and sophomore Angela Curl had 12 points, respectively.
Houston will next be in action at home in Hofheinz Pavilion on Sunday, February 6, for yet another Conference USA matchup. UH will face Memphis at 2:00 p.m.
