PALM COAST, Fla. – With three among the Top-10 leaders, the University of Houston Women’s Golf program held a 2-stroke advantage following the First Round of the American Athletic Conference Championships at Hammock Beach Golf & Spa Resort.

The Cougars, who stand at No. 23 in the latest Golfstat rankings, posted a team score of 291 on the 6,276-yard, par-72 Conservatory Course. UCF stood in second at 293, while Memphis and No. 47 ECU were tied for third at 296.

Junior Leonie Harm sank four birdies to tie for the team lead and stood in a tie for second at 2-under 70. Starting in the first group of the day off No. 1, Harm endured a pair of bogeys on her first nine and stood at +1 through 10 holes.

However, the Gerlingen, Germany native rallied with a birdie on No. 11 and added another on the 364-yard, par-4 13th hole.

After consecutive pars on Nos. 14-15, Harm sank her final birdie of the day on the 347-yard, par-4 16th hole and wrapped up her day with back-to-back pars. She finished the First Round in a tie with Wichita State’s Taryn Torgerson.

ECU’s Kathryn Carson held the First-Round lead after posting a 69 Sunday.

Playing in her fourth straight American Athletic Conference Championships to set a school record, senior Megan Thothong made birdie on two of her final four holes and was tied for seventh at 73. The Dallas native tied with Harm for team-high honors with four birdies in Sunday’s play.

Fellow senior Courtney Tibiletti joined Thothong in the group at 73 and was tied for seventh, while freshman Amanda Elich – competing in the first American Athletic Conference Championships of her career – was tied for 17th at 75.

Senior Allie Andersen was tied for 35th at 79.

Following ECU, Wichita State (302), Tulsa (305), Cincinnati (306), Tulane (310), SMU (311) and USF (314) rounded out the field.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament continues with 18 holes each day through Tuesday with the winner receiving the league’s automatic bid to NCAA Regional play.
