PALM COAST, Fla. – The University of Houston Women’s Golf program posted a score of 295 during Tuesday’s Final Round at the American Athletic Conference Championships to finish third.
Competing on the 6,198-yard, par-71 Conservatory Course at Hammock Beach Golf & Spa Resort, the Cougars finished the three-day, 54-hole tournament with a score of 867. This marked the third straight season in which the Cougars finished among The American Championships’ top-three leaders.
No. 28 UCF captured the team championship with a score of 4-under 860, while No. 39 SMU finished second at 863.
Following the Cougars, East Carolina (882), Tulsa (888), Cincinnati (888), USF (889), Tulane (896) and Memphis (915) rounded out the field.
Sophomore Leonie Harm posted a score of 4-under 212 to finish third. It was her second straight top-nine finish at The American Championships.
Making her third straight appearance at The American Championships, junior Megan Thothong joined Harm among the top-nine leaders. The Dallas native tied for the Cougars’ low round of the day with a 72 and finished sixth at 2-under 214.
Thothong (pronounced Toe-Tong) drained two birdies on her first six holes on the way to a career-best finish at The American Championships, topping her eighth-place showing at the 2016 event.
Tibiletti joined Thothong for the team’s low round. The Huntsville, Texas, native jumped out to a quick start with two birdies in her first five holes and tied for 13th at 220 in her American Championships debut.
UCF’s Ashley Holder earned medalist honors with a score of 7-under 209, while SMU’s Brigitte Dunne finished second at 210. UCF’s Maria Balcazar and SMU’s Faith Summers tied for fourth at 213.
With the completion of The American Championships, the Cougars will learn their NCAA postseason fate. The NCAA Selection Show is slated for 10 a.m., Thursday, April 27, on Golf Channel.
The Cougars look to be one of 64 teams sent to one of these four NCAA Regional sites: UNM Championship Course (Albuquerque, N.M.); The Rawls Course (Lubbock, Texas); Scarlet Course – Ohio State Golf Club (Columbus, Ohio) and University of Georgia Golf Course (Athens, Ga.).
