SARASOTA, Fla. - The University of Houston Women's Golf program takes its first step of the 2014 spring season when it competes at the Central District Invitational, starting Monday morning on the Cypress Links Course at Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club.
Sophomore Raegan Bremer and junior Courtney Ferguson will represent the Cougars on the 6,325-yard, par-72 course. With only two student-athletes competing, the Cougars will not be eligible for the team title but will face teams from Chattanooga, Indiana, Louisville, Michigan State, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Oakland, Toledo, Penn State, Rutgers, SMU, UCF, UNC Greensboro, Vanderbilt and host Michigan State.
This will be the Cougars' spring opener and first action since freshman Emily Gilbreth competed at the Sam Houston State/Harold Funston Invitational on Oct. 7-8. The Houston native tied for 12th at that event with a score of 224, including an opening-round 72.

Sophomore Raegan Bremer and junior Courtney Ferguson will compete in head coach Gerrod Chadwell and assistant coach Mary Michael Maggio's lineup. The Cougar duo earned their places with their recent performances in qualifying.
A transfer out of UC Davis, Bremer has been the Cougars' steadiest player. The Anaheim, Calif., native has finished among the top-26 leaders in all four tournaments in which she has competed, including a sixth-place showing at the Cardinal Cup on Sept. 16-17, 2013, thanks to a final-round 70.
Ferguson ranks second on the team with a 76.25 scoring average and tied for 19th at the Cardinal Cup, thanks to an opening-round 71.

Following the Central District Invitational, the Cougars compete at the SunTrust Gator Invitational on March 14-16. Fans should note that this is a change from the team's original schedule. The Cougars were originally scheduled to compete at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz., on March 14-16 but recently made the change.
