NEW ORLEANS – The University of Houston Women’s Golf program opens its spring season Sunday morning when it tees off at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship.

Teams will play 18 holes each day, beginning Sunday morning and running through Tuesday on the 6,239-yard, par-72 course at English Turn Golf & Country Club. Sunday’s and Monday’s rounds tee off at 9 a.m., with Tuesday’s Final Round beginning at 8 a.m.

Under the leadership of fourth-year Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell, the Cougars will be represented by junior Leonie Harm, senior Megan Thothong, junior Allie Andersen, senior Courtney Tibiletti and sophomore Amanda Elich.

Harm leads the Cougars with a 71.53 scoring average and nine rounds of par or better, while Thothong stands second with a 73.13 average and five rounds of par or lower.

For Sunday’s First Round, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Denver and North Carolina.

Elich will start the day for the Cougars at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, off No. 1, with Tibiletti (10:39 a.m.), Andersen (10:48 a.m.), Thothong (10:57 a.m.) and Harm (11:06 a.m.) following.

The Cougars, who check in at No. 21 in the latest Golfstat national rankings, will compete against a field, which features 10 of the nation’s top-50 programs.

Houston faces No. 8 Oklahoma State, No. 11 USC, No. 13 Michigan State, No. 18 Florida, No. 20 Denver, UCF, Clemson, Kansas, LSU, Miami (Fla.), North Carolina, NC State, Oregon, South Alabama and SMU.

In their last tournament, the Cougars tied for fifth at the Battle at the Beach in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico on Nov. 3-5 to close out the fall season.

Harm opened that event with a 67 in the First Round and finished third with a score of 5-under 208.

Following the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship, the Cougars play host to their own The Dickson on Feb. 26-27 at The Woodlands Country Club in The Woodlands, Texas.

From there, Houston will compete at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on March 13-14 at Kaheohe Klipper Golf Club in Oahu, Hawai’i.
