FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The University of Houston Women’s Golf program opens its fourth season of team competition when it tees off at the Mason Rudolph Championship at Vanderbilt Legends Club.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament begins with 8:30 a.m., split-tee starts off No. 1 and No. 10 on Friday and Saturday with the Final Round starting at 8 a.m., Sunday.

The Cougars officially began as a program with only four student-athletes competing as individuals for the 2013-14 season under Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell. Accustomed to competing with a young squad in previous years, Chadwell brings a veteran group into the Mason Rudolph Championship with three seniors and a pair of juniors.

Junior Leonie Harm, senior Megan Thothong, senior Ivon Reijers, junior Yuka Kajiki and senior Courtney Tibiletti will represent Houston in the first of five fall tournaments

“It’s crazy. You blink, and here they are seniors now,” Chadwell said. “With our ladies this year, you see a sense of maturity, and you don’t see as much emotion. You see more preparation and trusting in that preparation. I like that. I am looking forward to seeing us go out and compete.”

Since the program’s inception, Chadwell led the Cougars to four team championships, including the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championships title and three straight appearances in NCAA Regional play.

This marks the third straight season the Cougars will compete at the Mason Rudolph Championship on the 6,451-yard, par-72 layout at Vanderbilt Legends Club. A year ago, the team finished 10th to open the season with Leonie Harm tied for 15th at 218 to lead the Cougars.

“We are very familiar with Vanderbilt Legends Club. It’s not too demanding off the tee, but the greens are pretty quick with a lot of undulation around there,” Chadwell said. “Our ladies are excited. They love Nashville, and they love this tournament. It’s a great field with some teams we don’t see much throughout the year.”
