HOUSTON – English star Hannah Screen will compete at the University of Houston in 2018-19 after recently signing a National Letter of Intent, Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell announced Wednesday.
Screen competed at the international level as a member of the English National Girls Team in 2016-17 and will have four years of eligibility with the start of the 2018-19 season.
A native of Hertfordshire, UK, and student at John F. Kennedy Catholic School, Screen has won numerous county, regional and national titles during her career. She is currently ranked No. 240 in the latest World Amateur Golf rankings.
“Hannah has recently burst on the golf scene,” said Houston Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell, who has led the Cougars to three straight NCAA Regional team appearances. “She does everything well, and I really enjoyed her coach, Lee Jordan, and the things they are working on to help Hannah move forward in her development. She has really lit the world on fire.”
In 2017, she won the Bridget Jackson Bowl and Anne Pike Country trophy and was a sponsors’ invite into the European Tour BMW PGA Championship ProAm at Wentworth. She also earned a pair of second-place finishes at the Henry Cooper Junior Masters and the R&A British Strokeplay Championship.
Screen competed in seven major tournaments in 2016, capturing three individual championships.
She earned medalist honors at the County Schools Championship and followed that with the individual title at the Scottish Girls Open. She also captured the individual championship by two strokes with a score of 220 at the BMW Telegraph Junior Open Girls Championship.
In 2015, she captured individual titles at four tournaments, including the County Schools tournament, Ladies Club Championship and the County Under-18 Autumn Cup, and earned top-five finishes in 10 tournaments.
Screen won the National Schools Championship with a score of 146 in 2014 and finished seventh at the English Under-15 Open.
The Cougars open their spring season at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship on Feb. 18-20, 2018, at English Turn Country Club in New Orleans.
From there, the team will play host to their own The Dickson on Feb. 26-27 at The Woodlands Country Club in The Woodlands, Texas.
