Free Clinic, Game vs. Houston Aces slated for this Saturday at Carl Lewis Field
Former University of Houston soccer standout and current professional soccer player Katelyn Rhodes has been named the newest volunteer assistant coach for Houston Soccer in March 2014.
"I am so excited to have Katelyn back and working with our program. I was very fortunate to coach her for a season and watch what a great player she was and has become," said Pfau. "She has done a lot as a student-athlete for University of Houston and to have her work with our staff and players is tremendous. Katelyn is not only a great player, but also a great person and that people love to be around. It is exciting to continue this relationship with former players as we build on the tradition that they started here at University of Houston. Her experience with the Houston Aces pro team will give our players great insight on the dedication and hard work to get to that level."
Rhodes is a Lubbock, Texas native that played four years for the Cougars from 2009-12 at the forward position.
She returns to her alma mater and will serve under Pfau, associate head coach Suzie Grech and assistant coach Mike Stoerkel, assisting with all aspects of the program.
During her time at Houston Rhodes was a two-time All-Conference honoree, including a First-Team All-C-USA and Third Team All-Central Region nod following her sophomore campaign, helping Houston to a record-setting 12-5-4 season and a Third Team All-Conference honor at the conclusion of her collegiate career.
In her Houston career, Rhodes helped the Cougars to 29 wins in four years, logging over 1,000 minutes and playing in every game each season. She netted eight goals and tallied seven assists during her time as a Cougar.
For her efforts on the field, she was picked up by the Houston Aces, a North American women's professional soccer team in Houston founded in 2012 where she played in nine games last season. The Aces participate in the south division of the Big Sky Conference of the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL).
