HOUSTON - The University of Houston soccer team lost 1-0 in an exhibition match against TCU in Fort Worth on Wednesday.
The match was the first of two exhibitions that the Cougars will play to continue preparation for the regular season which starts with a match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Carl Lewis Complex.
"This (TCU) game was about looking at some young players and different combinations," head coach Chris Pfau said.
Houston had an early opportunity in the tenth minute when senior forward Alexis Weaver registered the game's first shot on goal.
Junior goalkeeper Jordan Brown got the start for Houston between the pipes and registered four saves on five chances in her 60 minutes of action.
"We knew for us the first-two, 30-minutes halves were going to be ugly," Pfau said. "We have pushed our team hard and we did not have our legs. The good came in the last 30 minutes. We started to fight and create some opportunities. If we can continue to build off that we will have a good foundation."
The Cougars return to action Sunday, Aug 17 at 7 p.m., when they play host to Sam Houston State, in their second exhibition match, at the Carl Lewis Complex. The regular season begins at home, Friday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
