Soccer Falls, 2-0, In Season Opener
Aug. 17, 2012 Box Score
HOUSTON- The University of Houston soccer program dropped its 2012 season opener to Stephen F. Austin 2-0 in Nacogdoches, Texas on Friday. The Cougars had some good scoring attempts in the first half but were unable to get on the scoreboard. In the ninth minute, junior midfielder Whitney Rosenheim chipped one over SFA's goalkeeper but was saved by a defender. SFA controlled the field for most of the half but Houston got another look with eight minutes left in the half when senior forward Katelyn Rhodes put the ball in the goal but it was quickly pick up by the goalkeeper. In the second half, the Cougars just couldn't find their rhythm and allowed two goals late in the game. Senior forward Laura Sadler struck first in the 65th minute with a high-flying ball giving the Ladyjacks a 1-0 lead. Freshman midfielder Rachel Owens finished the scoring in the 75th minute when she fired to the right corner from a distance. "We played scared and very tentative tonight," head coach Chris Pfau said. "The team took a step back but we will learn from this and bounce back at home." UP NEXT SEASON TICKETS Group Ticket deals are available as follows:
