Soccer Opens Home Slate With Win Over Houston Baptist
Aug. 19, 2012 HOUSTON- The University of Houston soccer team opened up its 2012 home slate with a 3-2 win over Houston Baptist Sunday evening. Sophomore forward Kayla Walker provided the game winner in the 60th minute. "We came out with a positive attitude and played with confidence," head coach Chris Pfau said. "We played more as a team." The Cougars came out strong and didn't take long for to get on the board. Junior forward Jasmine Martinez put one on within the first five minutes of the match on a penalty kick. Freshman forward Lauren Hodgdon followed in the 21st minute with a ball to the back of the net from sophomore Alexis Weaver, giving the Cougars a 2-0 lead. The Huskies had some scoring opportunities and weren't going to go into the half scoreless. In the 26th minute junior midfielder Molly Missimer put the Huskies on the board by scoring off a corner by Amina Redoncic. In the second half, HBU came out physical but the Cougars were unfazed, scoring the game-winning goal in the 60th minute. The Huskies came within one in the 78th minute, but were unable to capitalize and suffered their first loss of the season. Junior goalkeeper Sydney George got the win for the Cougars despite allowing two goals and having no saves the entire match. UP NEXT SEASON TICKETS
