HOUSTON - The Houston Soccer team came up short in its first road match of the season, falling to Cal-State Northridge in a 2-0 decision.
How It Happened
Cal-State Northridge got out to an early lead after picking up its first goal inside the 16th minute. Cynthia Sanchez capitalized off a deflection and was able to knock the ball into the net.
Houston had several chances but came up just short, and a timely foul inside the 63rd minute led to a successful penalty kick to increase the CSUN lead to two.
Four Cougars recorded shots during the match, led by Georgi Dolence with three.
Rachel Estopare played every minute in goal for Houston, collecting a match-high eight saves on 10 attempts.
Houston falls to 2-1-0 on the season and 123-185-37 overall.
Houston was outshot 20-6 by CSUN and trailed for the first time this season.
The Cougars are now 0-2 against CSUN and 0-2 against Big West opponents.
Houston will continue its road swing when its heads back to Houston to take on Rice Sunday at 7 p.m.
