Soccer Drops 2-0 at LSU
Sept. 2, 2012
BATON ROUGE, La.- The University of Houston soccer team drops 2-0 to LSU Sunday afternoon at the LSU Soccer Stadium. The Cougars are now 2-3 on the season.
The Tigers came out effective early in the match, scoring on their first shot attempt. Heather Magee turned and fired from 20 yards out over keeper Cami Koski in the fourth minute.
"We played the first 20 minutes tentative and scared," head coach Chris Pfau said. "LSU took advantage of that."
LSU controlled the field in the first half, outshooting Houston by a 6-2 margin. The Tigers added an insurance goal in the 40th minute when Jade Kovacevic buried a cross from teammate Victoria Sample.
Going into the second half down 2-0, the Cougars came out strong with three early shot attempts. They would go on to outshoot the Tigers 7-6 but could not prevent from being shutout.
"The great thing is that we came out in the second half and played great soccer," Pfau said. "We competed with them and hopefully that showed us if we have that kind of mind set we can do good things. Overall it was a good weekend for us. We are starting to figure out who we are and are excited going into next weekend."
