HOUSTON – The Houston Soccer team dropped its second match of the 2017 season in a 4-1 loss to Rice, Monday evening at Holloway Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Houston would strike first by way of senior Hannah Dauzat. The Texas native streaked to the left side of the box and connected with a pass made by Madison Soileau to knock in her second goal of the season.
Rice would even up the contest with a goal from Marissa Topolski inside the 27th minute with an assist from Mallory Radtke.
Houston would come out strong in the second frame holding off a pair of Rice scoring opportunities in the opening minutes of play. The Owls would break through the defense inside the 57th minute to take a 2-1 lead over Houston by way of a goal from Lianna Mananquil, assisted by Jessica Johnston.
Back-to-back goals at the 65 minute mark would further extend the Rice lead to 4-1 with under thirty minutes remaining.
- Dauzat now sits tied with freshman Jazmin Grant as the leading goal scorer this season with two.
- Rachel Estopare played every minute in goal for Houston tying her previous career-high of 11 saves during the match on 15 attempts.
- Rice leads the all-time series with Houston at 3-7-3
Houston will return to action this weekend when it returns to the Carl Lewis Complex to host Southern Mississippi on Sept. 8 and Lamar on Sept. 10.
