GREENVILLE, N.C. - In the University of Houston Soccer team's second double-overtime match of the week, the Cougars finished with a 1-1 draw in its final road game of the regular season at East Carolina Sunday at Johnson Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Junior Vanessa Almaguer got the Cougars on the board in the first half. At the 32nd minute of play, junior Margo McEntire crossed into the box to Almaguer who volleyed the ball into the left side of the net. Almaguer's goal is her fourth goal of the season and gave Houston the early lead.
East Carolina knocked home the equalizer in the first three minutes of the second period. Off a corner kick from East Carolina's Lena Spitler, Annah Lindberg headed the ball in the goal to put tie up the game in the 49th minute of play.
Goalkeeper Rachel Estopare spent all 110 minutes between the posts and finished with a season-best 11 saves. The Bend, Ore., native recorded her second match with double-digit saves of the season. The Arizona transfer's record is now 4-2-3 in goal this season. The Pirates' goal was only the second goal allowed by Estopare in league play.
The Cougars now are 6-4-3 on the season and 1-3-3 in conference play.
The Cougars return to action on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m., to take on conference foes Tulsa at Carl Lewis Complex. The match marks the first of three home games left in the Cougars' regular season.
