GREENVILLE, N.C. - The University of Houston women's soccer team (6-11-1, 3-5-1 C-USA) fell to East Carolina 2-0 Sunday afternoon at ECU Soccer Stadium.
"Sunday games on the road are tough," head coach Susan Bush said. "ECU simply out-battled us. They were the better team today and deserved the win."
ECU (9-6-1, 4-5-0 C-USA) outshot Houston 22-5 in the contest while taking 11 shots on goal. The Pirates took a 1-0 advantage in 13th minute of the match following a Caty Butler goal. The Cougars were unable to match the score, as they were only able to register two shots in the first frame.
In the second half, the Pirates scored another goal in the 54th minute to bring the game's final score to 2-0.
"We definitely lacked a hunger in the final third," Bush said.
Houston goalkeeper Sydney George (2-4-1), who faced 22 shots on the evening, recorded nine saves, while allowing the two goals.
The Cougars will return to Houston for their final home contest of the season against cross-town rival Rice at 7 p.m., Friday. Houston will also be honoring its four seniors Ryan Bruz, Stephanie Derieg, Lisa Murer and Jessica Zavalza prior to the game.
